Welcome to Dorset Allsorts

We'll be posting a variety of facts and photos of whatever takes our fancy as we wander around Dorset. They may be of churches, buildings, visitor attractions or natural scenes – in fact there will be all sorts! We hope they will give you a glimpse of some of the sights this beautiful county has to offer.

The Tank Museum

The Tank Museum in Bovington is really rather special.  We spent a very pleasant few hours there recently.  At the time of writing admission was £13 for adults and family tickets were available too so we felt it was good value for all the things they have on show.   The museum is divided into a number of different sections with different themes; the WWI trench experience was particularly impressive.  The museum houses examples of the earliest tanks from WWI to the modern tanks still in use today, together with lots of interesting information about how the tanks were developed and what it was, and is, like to be a member of a tank crew.   Some of our photos are below.

The last two photos are of a Sherman tank used in the Brad Pitt film Fury.
