Welcome to Dorset Allsorts

We'll be posting a variety of facts and photos of whatever takes our fancy as we wander around Dorset. They may be of churches, buildings, visitor attractions or natural scenes – in fact there will be all sorts! We hope they will give you a glimpse of some of the sights this beautiful county has to offer.

Cranborne Manor Garden

Cranborne Manor was originally built for King John as a base for hunting.  In 1604 King John gave the house to The Earl of Salisbury who enlarged it.  The family still own it to this day.

We could not go into the house but for £6 each we went around the quite wonderful gardens.  At the time of writing, you can only do this on Wednesdays.

As part of the gardens there is a lovely tea shop where we had lovely pot of tea and cake for two for £9.  There is also a quite impressive garden centre as part of the complex.  All in all we had a lovely half day wandering around, before doing a 3.5 mile walk around the Cranborne area ( a map of the route is here).  These are some of the photos we took of the house and gardens.
